Brainsarefun Reading and Study Skills is a five week intensive program for students, grades five through college, who need more academic success. The program provides a perfect compliment to your current curriculum.

THE BRAINSAREFUN READING AND STUDY SKILL PROGRAM is offered to students who need to remediate, develop and accelerate their basic skills. All classes are taught by Rory Donaldson (RESUME).
The average gain for two hundred graduates, completing 20 hours of instruction, consistently exceeds 2 years as measured by the California Test of Basic Skills (CTBS). Participating schools, using their preferred test to measure progress, may expect even better results.

BRAINSAREFUN READING AND STUDY SKILLS - Get Involved
Upon completion of the course participants receive a certificate documenting attendance and improvement.
Why get involved? The problem of poor academic performance will not fix itself. If it did we would have a nation of literate citizens. The fact is, the problem will not fix itself. However, with correct instruction enormous gains may be achieved. Students who are reading at grade level are typically performing at a C level. Students reading one year above grade level are commonly earning B's. The top grades are usually reserved for students reading two, or more, years above grade level.
Who should attend? Any individual, with a fifth grade or better reading level, who would like to accelerate his/her reading, writing, listening, speaking, information organization and study skills by one or more years in five weeks.
Reading ability is measured by common reading measurements, or a test of your school's preference.
Students who are not reading, writing, listening, speaking, organizing information and exhibiting study skills at grade level are almost always poor performers and on the brink of academic failure. The problems holding students back can commonly be overcome with correct instruction. Each class presents skills that are applied immediately. Improvement is graphed daily and an increase in academic performance is usually immediate.
About the instructor: All courses are taught by Rory Donaldson Creator and Founder of Brainsarefun Reading and Study Skills (RESUME). Mr. Donaldson earned his Masters Degree in Teaching and has had thirty years of teaching and training experience. He has taught reading and study skills, grades K through university, at schools as diverse as Tulane University, Lewis and Clark College, Dunbar High School, Wofford College, Hamilton College, Antioch University, the Hannah Moore Academy, Accelerated School and Littleton Preparatory Charter School.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) from the Colorado College where he majored in English and Education. He earned his Master of Arts in Teaching degree (M.A.T.) from Antioch University. He has completed training in The Baldridge Reading and Study Skills method, Direct Instruction, Positive Discipline, Accelerated Learning/Study Skills and Accelerated Reading. RESUME

BRAINSAREFUN HAS A FOUR TRACK CURRICULUM
1) Honor Students are already performing in the top 20%. They already have strong skills. However, if ignored, these students may chose to believe that no one really appreciates their effort. While they are going to succeed at most schools, they often can become bored, cynical and choose poor behavior. These students must be rewarded for their good behavior and be able to earn for continuing effort.
2) College Prep Students are probably headed towards college. They have sufficient skills but don't really exhibit much focus or effort. These students must learn that by choosing appropriate behavior their skills can accelerate. They, too, can be earning better grades and preparing themselves for continuing their educations. These are the students who tend to finish four or five years of college without achieving much direction or motivation. Their academic lives are at risk.
3) Remedial students may feel defeated, choose poor behavior, are regularly in arguments with parents and teachers. These students are often labeled with learning disorders and are in need of a lot of academic success fast. These students are at a great risk of dropping out.
4) Teacher Training. Wanting to spread the Brainsarefun program as far and wide as possible, if you are interested in teacher training special contracts may be developed specifically to the meet the needs of your teachers and school. Contact roryd@brainsarefun.com.
Brainsarefun is appropriate for 95% of all students, grades five through college, regardless of learning style, emotional intelligence or special learning challenge. For parents in need of guidelines, individual sessions may be arranged.
WHAT MAY STUDENTS EXPECT WHO COMPLETE 25 HOURS OF INSTRUCTION?
- A year or more gain in their ability to read, write, listen, speak, organize information and study.
- Improved test scores -- commonly, a year (or more) gain after the first ten to fifteen hours of instruction and an additional year for every additional 25 hours.
- The ability to start on time, stay on task, complete assignments.
